| In rural mountainous regions of Mexico, children can get an education if the teacher bothers to show up. Teacher absenteeism is a big problem for schools in rural Mexico. Teachers often leave early on Friday and arrive late on Monday or sometimes not at all until Wednesday. The World Bank blames Mexico’s 1.5-million member Teachers Union for the sorry state of education in Mexico. The union denies any widespread problem. Conrad Fox reports. |
