In late 2006, Taliban forces attacked the school in the Afghan village of Guldara. The people of Guldara have since rebuilt their school. Buildings opposite the Guldara school show bullet holes from recent Taliban-led fighting.

|Getting an education can be very difficult in Afghanistan. In the village of Guldara, adults have to guard the school because the Taliban wants to shut it down. The Taliban doesn’t like girls attending school. In Guldara, parents want all their children educated so they serve as volunteer security guards at night to make sure the Taliban doesn’t burn down the school -- something it has done to 187 other schools in Afghanistan.
