| Kong Nai is called the Ray Charles of Cambodia. He’s blind, but he doesn’t play the piano; he plays the chaipei, a traditional Cambodian instrument, a bit like a banjo. Kong Nai is the country’s only living chaipei master, but his musical career almost came to an end during the horrific reign of the Khmer Rouge. Jason Strother reports from Phnom Penh. |
