Medellin was once the home of Pablo Escobar and his violent Colombian drug cartel. For years it was one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Crime was particularly bad in Santo Domingo, a shantytown perched on a mountain at the northern end of Medellin. Santo Domingo was a recruiting ground for drug gangs and rebel armies.
Now, however, locals say Santo Domingo is a vibrant -- and safe -- place to live. Reporter Conrad Fox finds out why. |
