| In Israel, Arabs and Jews rarely mix socially. But in the Biblical port city of Jaffa, just south of Tel Aviv, there’s one café-bookstore that both populations frequent. Daniel Estrin discovered the café when he first arrived in Israel a few years ago. In a Reporter’s Notebook, Estrin says some days there are more Jews that come; some days there are more Arabs. And some days they even sit with each other. The owners don’t keep score. They just think this kind of place should exist. |
