| One of the most colorful sights on the tiny Dutch island of Curacao, just 35 miles off the coast of Venezuela, is the “floating market.” That’s where boatmen, called barcqueros, from Venezuela sell produce and fish from the edge of the dock. Crossing the ocean to get to Curacao can be treacherous, but the vendors say it’s more lucrative than jobs in the coastal villages of Venezuela. Judith Ritter reports. |
