| A twenty-six year old, award-winning female journalist named Leila Fadel is the current bureau chief for McClatchy Newspapers in Baghdad. Being in the middle of a war zone means daily risks, but as a woman she also faces unique dangers, as does almost all of her staff. Many are Iraqi women who have had loved ones killed, been targeted themselves, or had to flee for their lives. She says their stories are as much about courage and heroism as the people they report on. Despite the dangers, Fadel is committed to staying in Baghdad so she can tell the stories of average Iraqis to an American audience. She talks with host Peggy Wehmeyer. |
