| In many cultures in the developing world, marriages are arranged. In Ethiopia, half of all girls are married before they even graduate from elementary school. Reporter Richard Lough ran into the exception -- a 12-year old girl who loved school more than the man she was supposed to marry, but had never even met. The girl refused, moved out of her father’s house, and now lives with an older brother. As a result, both siblings are now shunned by their father. But the girl -- now 15-years old -- continues to get something her father never had -- an education. Richard Lough tells us about her in this reporter’s notebook. |
