There is a unique and special link between World Vision and Civicom. The relationship is rooted in the principle of "tithing" applied to today's world of commerce in an innovative way:
    • Civicom's founders offered up 10% of their stock to World Vision.
    • The company also donates 10% of revenues, from customers who so choose, to the Gulu Children of War Center to support children rescued from the horrific ravages of the LRA rebel group in Uganda.
In Gulu, a northern district of Uganda, World Vision runs the Gulu Children of War Center, a counseling center for former child soldiers. Started in 1995, the center receives abducted children, provides medical support and therapeutic feeding to the malnourished, and facilitates smooth reunion of the children with their families. More than 9,000 children and adults have passed through the center. The center also provides vocational skill training for formerly abducted children.

So, when you use Civicom's communications services, you not only support these exploited, often traumatized, children – you actually become part of God’s covenant promise to reward the act of tithing.

This is a "win-win-win-win-win" — for these vulnerable children, Civicom, World Vision, the principle of tithing, and YOU. You, because Civicom offers terrific value in the following services:
    • Teleconferencing
    • Web conferencing
    • Transcriptions
"The 'corporate tithe' has been a source of so much providence for our company," said David West, founder and CEO of Civicom. "It makes sense to donate up front because the act can come back on itself when people respond to it and actually increase the value of what was given. In our case some of our best people and our best customers are with us because they wish to support the ‘corporate tithe’ model we laid out.

"We have to compete in the marketplace just like any other company by offering excellent services at a good value, but often the 'tithe' acts as a tie-breaker in our favor and opens doors that might otherwise not be open.

"Equally important, our association with World Vision has elevated our awareness of the suffering caused by AIDS, because the first project we contributed to supported orphans and widows left vulnerable by AIDS. Now we are helping support a project in northern Uganda that deals with kids rescued from the LRA in the Gulu district, many of which have also been affected by AIDS.

"We feel we're helping a little with short term solutions and potentially even more with the long-term. We are passionate about the possibilities if other companies were to follow our model. It is compelling and we think it deserves the support of all who care."

Founded in 1950, World Vision is an international Christian humanitarian organization that serves the world's poorest children and families in nearly 100 countries. Its assistance extends to all people, regardless of religious beliefs, gender, race, or ethnic background.
