Seattle Area Seniors 'Get a Kick Out of Sharing' with World Vision
Their passion for soccer led them to World Vision to complete their high school service project at Tahoma High School in Maple Valley, WA. "Get A Kick Out of Sharing" is a World Vision Gift-in-Kind program to acquire 250,000 balls for children who love soccer but have never played with a real ball. Ashley and Lyndsay launched their effort last August after seeing a magazine ad about the soccer ball donation program. They checked out the Web site (www.worldvision.org/soccerballs), where they watched footage shot by CBS during a trip to Rwanda last spring. "I was over at her house," Ashley said. "When we saw the way the children were mesmerized by the sight of one child with a soccer ball on the video, we knew this was what we wanted to do." As co-captains, Lyndsay was a defender and Ashley was a goalkeeper on the Tahoma High School girls soccer team that won the South Puget Sound League championship last fall. They finished the year with a 13-3-2 record and qualified for the state play-offs, but were defeated by Stadium High School which went all the way to the state championship round. |
