A World Vision For New York
For the past 50 years, World Vision has been saving children from disease, poverty, injustice, and hunger the world over. World Vision – New York extends the same compassion to families and communities here in the Greater New York area.
Why New York?
Greater New York is home to more people (20 million), more wealth (10 percent of the nation’s wealth), more corporations (15 percent of U.S. companies with sales over $3 billion), more foundations, and more racial and economic diversity than any other region in the United States. More than 500,000 new jobs were developed in the region over the past 10 years.
Yet our region also has more poor children and more poor families than ever.
- 1 in 5 NY residents is living below the federal poverty line.
- The New York City child poverty rate is 29.5% well above adults (17%) and the elderly (18.6%).
- 3 out of 10 of the city’s children are poor in comparison to 16.3% nationally.
- Families make up 75% of New York City’s homeless population.
- A typical homeless child is under 5 years old.
Our mission is to partner with you to help the neediest children and families in Greater New York and around the world realize their God-given potential. Whether you are an individual, family or part of a church, a corporation, a foundation, a school, or a member of the media, your contribution of time, talent, and/or resources will help us serve even more communities.
We’re already partnering with your friends and neighbors and we want to work with you to serve the least, the lost, and the last of Greater New York and beyond.
The possibilities are limitless. You could reach out to a child in Greater New York traumatized by the events of Sept. 11, or you could extend a hand halfway around the world to touch a child orphaned by HIV/AIDS in Uganda, Africa. Imagine the difference that we can make by simply reaching out to offer hope to just one child here or somewhere in the world!
