    Serving in Your Own Backyard
For teenagers from central Indiana, a trip to urban Chicago can be a shocking experience, which is just what youth pastor Matt Agnew wanted for his youth group. “We live in a rural community, and we wanted our youth to get their eyes opened about the needs of the city,” he says.

Matt planned a week-long trip through World Vision’s CityLINC program. CityLINC coordinators helped Matt find work projects that gave the youth group a chance to serve in shelters, churches, and community centers across Chicago.

Each year World Vision program associates in Chicago place hundreds of single-time and long-term volunteers with local ministry and non-profit organizations for an opportunity to serve in Chicago’s urban neighborhoods. More than 1,000 people volunteer over 5,000 hours annually through World Vision’s volunteer program. At an average rate, this amounts to almost $70,000 in donated hours each year.

Matt knew he could trust World Vision. “World Vision is well known through 30 Hour Famine and their Child Sponsorship, so when we heard they’d help us set up a mission trip to Chicago, we decided to call right away,” says Matt. “[They] set up the whole trip, and planned all the details.”
