Church & Community In addition to programs like KidREACH, The Storehouse, and CityLINC, which all work in partnership with Chicago-area churches, World Vision offers several unique ways to learn more about global issues, support international efforts, and engage in opportunities for personal and congregational growth. See below for a sampling of the available opportunities. Sponsorship Sunday Host a sponsorship Sunday at your church. World Vision will provide you with the staff and resources you need to call those in your church to a commitment to serving the poor. Contact Vanessa Church at vchurch@worldvision.org or by calling 773.921.3900 x329. HOPE Parties Individuals within the church can host HOPE Parties. If you are looking for a way to make a great impact through child sponsorship, consider hosting a HOPE Party in your home. By inviting your neighbors, friends and family you can see the impact of child sponsorship multiply. Let our staff and volunteers show you how easy this can be. If you supply the house or apartment and ten of your friends, we will do the rest. For more information contact Doug or Nancy Zirkel at nzirkel@sbcglobal.net or by calling 773-921-3900 x312. 30 Hour Famine 30 Hour Famine engages junior high, high school, and college students in a nationwide event focusing on the needs of people who are hungry, poor, and oppressed. This educational and experiential event encourages students to abstain from food for 30 hours so they can experience the pangs of hunger that many men, women, and children face on a daily basis worldwide. Funds raised by participants are used to assist those in need both domestically and internationally. Nearly 600,000 students worked together in 2000 to raise over $8 million. For more information, contact Kenyatta at kbarry@worldvision.org or by calling 773-921-3900 x337. Sponsor a Well Your church can sponsor a clean water source that will provide for an entire community, satisfying thirst, stopping preventable water-related illnesses, and transforming the communities of the Makungwa in Eastern Zambia. World Vision Zambia needs 15 new water wells at $10,000 each. Contact Larry Van Dyke at lvandyke@worldvision.org or by calling 773.921.3900 x320 if you or your church would like to provide for this great need. Church 2 Community C2C connects the U.S. church to African children, communities, and churches on the front lines of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa. C2C allows church leaders to visit the Africa for themselves to see first hand the impact of HIV/AIDS. Contact chicago@worldvision.org for more information. Gift Catalog Send a unique gift from World Vision Gift Catalog to a needy child or family in the name of a family or loved one. Choose from more than 100 gifts that include rabbits, chickens and goats. Love Loaf Love Loaf is an educational tool available to churches to teach families about caring for the needs of people around the world. Families are encouraged to support missions through prayer and donations as they learn not only about world needs but also about God’s transforming work among the poor and oppressed.
