about "in the name of love"
about world vision
Africa has been devastated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Christian music recording artists with Sparrow Records wanted to help the African children and families whose lives have been impacted by this disease. So they created a special album called In the Name of Love: Artists United for Africa featuring hit songs previously made popular by the music band U2. A portion of the proceeds from the CD will go toward the support of World Vision’s projects in the Zambian village of Mwakankomba.

Sparrow Records, with World Vision’s advice, chose to support Mwakankomba village because, like so many other villages throughout Zambia and Africa, it has been particularly hard hit by AIDS. This unique partnership will enable World Vision and the villagers of Mwakankomba to more effectively fight poverty and disease.

World Vision, one of the world’s largest Christian relief and development organizations, is working in more than 30 countries—predominantly in Africa—to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS to the next generation. We teach children the facts about the disease and the value of chastity before and fidelity after marriage. In the African country of Uganda, this approach has helped reduce HIV infections by two-thirds. We’ll bring our expertise in fighting this disease to the village of Mwakankomba to help them save their next generation of children.

Enough funds have already been contributed from the sale of the CD and other donations to assist the village for five years. These funds will provide for healthcare programs, caregivers, AIDS education, a daycare center for orphans, and more.

“World Vision is very grateful to the artists, to Sparrow Records, and to the people who will purchase this powerful album and help bring hope to Mwakankomba village in Zambia,” said Richard Stearns, president of World Vision. “We believe this project will deliver an even greater impact by increasing awareness of the children and families throughout Africa and the world who struggle daily against the impact of HIV/AIDS.”
