    Vision Youth

    WHAT IS VISION YOUTH?

Vision Youth pairs children and teens living in high-risk, low-income communities with trained adult mentors that help them to overcome negative influences, make responsible choices, and set goals for a healthy, productive future.

    HOW DOES VISION YOUTH WORK?

Vision Youth strengthens the relationships and networks of support in a child's life so they are better equipped to overcome the challenges of poverty and realize their full potential. To reach young people in need, Vision Youth trains and supports dedicated Youth Outreach Workers who operate out of faith-based organizations in economically depressed, underserved neighborhoods throughout the city.

THE NEED IN NEW YORK CITY:

In addition to the normal challenges of adolescence, the young people served by Vision Youth face the devastating effects of poverty in their lives and in their community. Vision Youth currently touches the lives of over 500 youth in eight high-risk communities in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

    IN VISION YOUTH COMMUNITIES:

    • 44 percent of school-age children live below the poverty level.
    • 86 percent of students qualify to receive a free lunch.
    • 69 percent of students did not meet state and city reading standards; 74 percent did not meet state and city math standards.
    • 64 percent of children are born to single mothers.

    HOW YOU CAN HELP

You can be a part of Vision Youth and help touch the lives of young people who need your compassion and commitment. Financial support is necessary to keep the program alive and growing. Here's what your donation can do:
    • $100 will provide educational enrichment resources (e.g., books, software) for one young person for one year.
    • $210 will train one Youth Outreach Worker for one month.
    • $250 will send one inner-city youth to summer camp for five days.
    • $2,500 will cover the monthly stipend of a full-time Youth Outreach Worker.
    • $30,000 will cover the annual stipend of one Youth Outreach Worker.
