    Volunteer Opportunities

    There are a number of volunteer opportunities to get involved with the New York office of World Vision.


    THE STOREHOUSE

    As the foundation of World Vision – New York's work to meet basic needs in the greater NY metropolitan area, The Storehouse provides resources such as clothing, school supplies and building materials to revitalize neighborhoods and sustain families as they break out of poverty into a hope-filled future. You can help with ongoing projects, such as sorting new clothing, stocking shelves, and office support. Other projects like loading/unloading trucks, painting, taking inventory, and helping with facility repairs also require volunteer assistance. Both groups and individuals are welcome to come to The Storehouse on a regular basis or for a single day!     Here are a few volunteer positions we currently have available:
    Shipping and Receiving/ Warehouse Clerk
    (4-6 hour blocks of time between 9am and 5pm M-F)
    Volunteers for the Warehouse Clerk position should be able to clearly communicate and give direction to truck drivers and various volunteer groups who will be giving their time to the World Vision – New York Storehouse. He or she should be an organized and responsible individual that is meticulous in record keeping. Any prior warehouse, retail or supermarket experience would be an added benefit. He/She should be in physically good condition, able to spend most of the day on his or her feet and able to lift up to 50 lbs unencumbered.
    Other helpful attributes would include:
    • The ability to schedule deliveries and pick-ups
    • Knowledge of shipping with UPS, Airborne Express, FedEx and USPS
    • Operate hand jack, electric jack and forklift, if properly certified
    • Unload trailer using hand jack, electric jack and forklift, if properly certified
    • Prepare goods for shipping individually or by pallets
    • Assist in storing product on warehouse racks
    • Assist in inventory cycle counts
    Stocking/Merchandising Clerk
    (4-6 hour blocks of time between 9am and 5pm M-F)
    We are looking for several volunteers who can take ownership of several areas in our warehouse, one of which is the Stocking/Merchandising. Volunteers for this position should be able to clearly communicate and give direction to various volunteer groups who will be giving their time to The Storehouse. He or she should be an organized and upbeat individual who enjoys working with people. He or she should also possess a good eye for product display. Any prior warehouse, retail, or supermarket experience would be an added benefit. Volunteers should be in physically good condition, able to spend most of the day on his or her feet and able to lift up to 50 lbs unencumbered.

    Inventory Clerk
    (4-6 hour blocks of time between 9am and 5pm M-F)
    The Inventory Clerk should be able to clearly communicate and give direction to various volunteer groups who will be giving their time to the World Vision – New York Storehouse. The Clerk should be an organized and responsible individual that is meticulous in his or her record keeping. Any prior warehouse, retail or supermarket experience would be an added benefit. He or she should be in physically good condition, able to spend most of the day on his or her feet and able to lift up to 50 lbs unencumbered.
    Other helpful attributes would include the ability to:
    • Run inventory cycle counts
    • Manage a spreadsheet-based inventory
    • Review and prepare inventory shrinkage reports
    • Operate hand jack, electric jack and forklift, if properly certified
    • Assist unloading trailer using hand jack, electric jack and forklift, if properly certified
    • Prepare goods for shipping individually or by pallets
    • Assist in storing product on warehouse racks
    Sorting clerk
    (4-6 hour blocks of time between 9am and 5pm M-F)
    We are looking for several volunteers who can oversee the clothes-sorting area (new clothing only) in the World Vision – New York Storehouse. Volunteers should be able to clearly communicate and give direction to various groups who will be giving time to the World Vision – New York Storehouse. He or she should be an organized and upbeat individual who enjoys working with people. Prior warehouse, retail or department store experience is an added benefit. He or she should be in physically in good condition and able to spend several hours a day on his or her feet. Volunteers for this position should also be able to lift 30 lbs unencumbered.

    Be a Child Advocate
    World Vision – New York hopes to mobilize you to change hearts on campus, create awareness in your community, and advocate for innocent children all around the world. There are many ways to do this – from starting an Acting an AIDS chapter on your college campus to introducing child sponsorship to your church and community. Child sponsorship gives you the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the life of one precious child in need and helps provide long-term restoration to a hurting part of the world. As a Child Advocate, you would be a voice advocating and acting on behalf of children and global communities. Our office is committed to helping you get started and providing whatever you may need.     World VisionNew York’s Events
    If you would like to be added to our volunteer e-mail list, which notifies you of upcoming World Vision – New York events, please contact Sharon Park. Our events include small advocacy and awareness gatherings to larger-scale opportunities such as a Day at the Park at Great Adventure! Volunteers at these events serve in various ways from helping with sponsorship drives to preparing and planning for the event.
