| SchoolTools in Vietnam |
 |
While the people of Vietnam reside in one of the poorest nations in the world, they greatly value education. In a society plagued by unemployment, overpopulation, and poverty, education is the only way out — and the means to a better life. However, without proper supplies, even this small bit of hope cannot become reality.
SchoolTools is a vital program for children in Vietnam, helping them acquire the basic school supplies they need for a quality education. This letter from a young Vietnamese girl, Quynh Nhu, explains the impact SchoolTools kits have on the poor in her country:
“I am in grade 6. I live in a large and poor family. My mother got a serious disease and experienced an operation in the hospital, which added difficulties to my family. In November 1999, the flood happened and swept away all of the books and clothes of my family. I was very sad and intended to drop out of school.
My teachers and friends helped me, and I received a gift from children in the United States. All this concern has partly reduced the difficulties, and encouraged me. Since then, I have confidence in life and passion for studying. I think that I am not alone. Not only friends in my country, but also friends from outside the country cared for me. I’d like to say a sincere ‘thanks’ for the kit. I wish my thoughts could fly to my friends in the United States.”
