| The Storehouse is a nonprofit organization created to improve housing for families and rehabilitate communtiy facilities in Chicago's low-income neighborhoods. Donated building supplies are received from corporate partners, and are then made available to qualified nonprofit groups and individuals.![]() Since opening our doors in 1995, The Storehouse has received over $10 million in donated supplies from 300 corporate partners. These resources are housed in a 40,000-square-foot warehouse in the Austin community of Chicago's west side. The Storehouse's work has earned the approval of the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), who honored The Storehouse with a "Best Practices" award in 1999. The Storehouse has also been named the charity of choice for The Home Improvement Industry President's Council.
