World Vision in the Twin Cities
A major factor in determining the health of any community is the well-being of its children and young people. When young people are healthy, successful, and safe, the community is doing a good job and it’s likelihood for survival is good. But approximately 24 percent of children younger than 18 in the Twin Cities are living in poverty. Clusters of urban and rural communities are so distressed that hope is fast disappearing.World Vision has been successfully coming alongside poor and struggling communities around the globe for more than 50 years. As followers of Jesus, we are called to serve the poor and help children and families in need wherever they are—especially here in the Twin Cities area, where the division between those with the resources to live healthy, productive lives and those without is so great.
World Vision comes alongside faithful church and community partners already hard at work trying to lift their neighbors out of poverty. Our innovative domestic programs address local needs with three core strategies that mentor high-risk children and youth; distribute donated products to those in need; and train community groups to develop leaders, mobilize resources, and design effective programs.
Vision Youth is focused on building relationships and fostering academic success that helps young people make solid life choices. We begin our walk with children when they are young and remain alongside as they grow into young adulthood.
Many of these children and their families don’t have the resources to provide for their daily needs, and require a hand up as they struggle to break the grip of poverty. The Storehouse provides everything from building and school supplies to clothes, toys, and household goods to our church and community partners, who see that they get to those who need them most.
Our Tools for Transformation initiative provides the leadership training, education, and support our church and community partners need to bring sustainable, transformational development to their neighborhoods.
