These are the most devastating winter wildfires in Southern California in more than four decades.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters worked tirelessly for weeks to contain the flames, while evacuation orders and hazardous conditions displaced entire communities. O&rsquo;Hara-Glaspie)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Authorities are still investigating the specific causes, but a combination of <a href=\"\/disaster-relief-news-stories\/extreme-weather-helping-communities-recover-rebuild\">extreme weather<\/a> patterns over the past two years led to the conditions that exacerbated the current fires.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The southern California region experienced extreme wet weather from winter of 2023 into spring of 2024, allowing much new vegetation to grow quickly. Then the area more recently experienced prolonged dry weather, creating conditions for fires to break out Tuesday, January 7. O&rsquo;Hara-Glaspie)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<h2 id=\"response\">How is World Vision responding to the Los Angeles fires?<\/h2>\n<p>As of January 2026, World Vision has supported 156,064 people.&nbsp; In the phases of our response, our <a href=\"\/us-work-news-stories\/from-disasters-to-healing-world-visions-work-in-us\">U.S. Programs<\/a> team dispatched 71 truckloads of emergency response supplies to our partners. The supplies were delivered to church and community partners across the Los Angeles area for them to distribute to help people affected by the fires.<\/p>\n<p>These supplies were shipped from our World Vision Storehouse, our national network of warehouses, including our locations in Fife, Washington, as well as Dallas, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>We continue to assess the needs of impacted communities to guide potential rebuilding and recovery efforts.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_105678\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-105678\" style=\"width: 404px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-105678 size-full lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/wvusstatic.com\/email\/met3\/spacer.gif\" alt=\"A man pushes a cart with more than 12 boxes that have the World Vision logo. (&copy; 2025 Genesis Photo Agency\/photo by Greg Schneider)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The shipments include supplies such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Water<\/li>\n<li>Protective gear, including face masks, goggles, gloves, respirators, and full-body suits<\/li>\n<li>Food<\/li>\n<li>Air beds<\/li>\n<li>Hygiene kits, including feminine hygiene products<\/li>\n<li>Sheets and blankets<\/li>\n<li>Coolers<\/li>\n<li>Shoes<\/li>\n<li>Socks<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning supplies<\/li>\n<li>Diapers<\/li>\n<li>Formula<\/li>\n<li>Tools<\/li>\n<li>Clothing<\/li>\n<li>Children&rsquo;s toys<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In total, we&rsquo;ve worked with 32 different partners in Los Angeles to reach people affected by the fires.
