Cities like Mosul and Tikrit fell rapidly, and violence was directed against civilians, particularly religious and ethnic minorities such as Christians and Yazidis. The communities they had built and enjoyed have been destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Many children were forced to flee with only the clothes they had on. They&rsquo;re out of school and vulnerable to violence and health issues due to unstable and unhygienic living conditions.<\/p>\n<p>As families who escaped ISIL-occupied Mosul arrived at camps in 2016, World Vision staff members were horrified at the&nbsp;<a href=\"\/disaster-response-news-stories\/children-fleeing-mosul-offensive\">condition of children<\/a> who had lived through atrocities and sectarian violence, and who carried deep psychological scars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><a href=\"#faqs\">BACK TO QUESTIONS<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"needs\">What are the greatest needs of those displaced in Iraq?<\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Although Iraq is no longer in active conflict, many families continue to struggle to meet their basic needs. data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Water scarcity and damaged infrastructure affect access to safe water<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Healthcare:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Vulnerable populations face barriers to accessing essential health services<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Education:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Children need safe schools, supplies, and support to return to target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Extreme weather challenges<\/a> are also intensifying needs, with rising temperatures, drought, and water shortages affecting agriculture and
