(&copy;2022 World Vision\/photo by Mike Bassett)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"strength\">How strong of a storm was Hurricane Ian?<\/h2>\n<p>Hurricane Ian&rsquo;s top maximum sustained winds of 155 mph had been recorded hours before landfall, when the Category 4 hurricane was 2 mph shy of reaching Category 5 classification, the strongest classification on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/aboutsshws.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As it moved inland and across Florida, Hurricane Ian weakened to a tropical storm but regained strength over the Atlantic Ocean, curving toward South Carolina. The efficiency of our response during events like hurricanes is possible due to strategically positioned emergency relief supplies at our warehouses nationwide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In response to Hurricane Ian<\/strong>, we immediately deployed 11 truckloads of emergency aid from our warehouses in Texas, Washington state, and West Virginia to support hurricane-ravaged communities in Florida and one in South Carolina. We delivered 600 <a href=\"\/corporate\/2021\/04\/15\/fresh-food-helps-west-virginia-family-feed-children-during-pandemic\/\">Fresh Food Boxes<\/a> filled with nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables to families affected by Hurricane Ian. Essentials given to families included water, food, water purification tablets, hygiene and cleaning products, diapers, clothing, portable chairs, tents, canopies, and coolers.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[The area] experienced a lot of flooding from the [storm] surge. Families lost everything; all their belongings are on the side of the road. This is one of the worst catastrophic storms that I&rsquo;ve seen in my lifetime,&rdquo; said Pastor Frank Rincon of&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Bethel-Assembly-of-God-Spanish-Church\/116070368422040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bethel Assemblies of God Church<\/a>&nbsp;in Immokalee, Florida.
