The Bible is rich in wisdom about God’s love for people living in poverty — and about our responsibility to help. Deuteronomy 26:6-9 (NIV)
“But the Egyptians mistreated us and made us suffer, subjecting us to harsh labor. Then we cried out to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, and the Lord heard our voice and saw our misery, toil and oppression. So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders. “He saves the needy from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.”

Father, let World Vision’s work and that of other humanitarian groups bring the hope You desire to people living with few resources. Shut the mouth of injustice that seeks to rob families of what they need to survive. Open our eyes to the rich faith You have given to people who live in poverty. Help us learn to have servant’s hearts and live in humility and gratefulness.
