The Ignite Challenge

Young people possess the potential to make an impact in the world, in Jesus’ name. They just need to the opportunity. Blending meaningful service learning with academics and relationships, the Ignite Challenge enables students to grow in their faith as they seek God’s direction to set and achieve big goals — and create the kind of lasting change in their community that’s only possible with God.

Empowering students to make an impact

The Ignite Challenge empowers students to discover an underlying cause behind a real-world problem and to tackle it by putting their proposed solutions into action, here and now. Students research an issue of poverty or injustice in their own community, seeking to understand all the aspects of that issue in order to discern the best outcome, taking into consideration the specific needs and perspectives of those who are impacted by it.

Overview: How it works

Student-led and teacher-facilitated, the Ignite Challenge gives young people the opportunity to use their gifts as they collaborate to address deep questions and explore different pathways for solving problems. Students receive support from the Ignite partnership team throughout the process. Completed projects are analyzed by the Ignite team according to a rubric that aligns with World Vision’s proven approach to community development. Participating in the Ignite Challenge enables students to create real human relational connections and grow to be curious empathetic partners in solving issues of injustice and poverty.

Partner with Ignite

The Ignite Challenge is just one way students are putting learning into action. Students also engage through international opportunities, K-12 curriculum, on-campus experiences, and training from World Vision experts on advocacy for vulnerable people. In Matthew 25, Jesus calls us to embody His love and to care for people who are often overlooked by the world. Ignite helps students follow this call — here and now — and equips them to live out these essential disciplines of faith as they make a tangible difference in their communities and around the world.
