Rats are a modern day plague in many parts of India. They can sweep through entire fields of rice and wheat and devastate crops. In southern India, the problem is so serious that a whole profession exists just for catching rats.

Journalist Anuj Chopra reported for theSan Francisco Chronicleon an advance that is helping the lot of theIrula,a tribe that has been catching rats for centuries.
