Miss HIV Stigma-Free
Listen to the:
Cynthia Leshomo was a beauty queen from Botswana, in southern Africa. But hers was no ordinary title. She was named Miss HIV Stigma-Free. When she was crowned in 2005, she became a tireless crusader for those living with HIV. She publicly admitted her HIV status and how she got it. She denounced the discrimination faced by people with HIV. Cynthia touched many lives before losing her own to AIDS in December last year. In honor of her courage and determination to help others, AIDS Up Close re-runs a story about her by Sonya Varma. It was first broadcast last year.
