World Vision Statement on Global Hunger Crisis; Thanks Congress For Approving Additional Humanitarian Funding

SEATTLE (May 19, 2022) — World Vision President and CEO, Edgar Sandoval Sr., issued the below statement following Congressional approval of $5.8 billion in international assistance:

“Hunger is felt most by vulnerable and marginalized populations, particularly children. Food insecurity and malnutrition can lead to the needless death of hundreds of thousands of children and forces families to utilize negative coping mechanisms such as early marriage and child labor. Our faith calls us to act to protect these precious children whom God loves. World Vision US, along with our humanitarian partners, asked Congress to act swiftly to address the pervasive hunger that is affecting communities where we serve throughout the globe. Congressional leaders have answered that appeal and have approved almost $5.8 billion to respond to urgent humanitarian needs including hunger. We are deeply grateful for this critical global leadership and we look forward to our continued partnership with the U.S. Government as we implement our programs and feed hungry children.”
