Can I send money or gifts to my sponsored child?

Extra financial gifts
You may decide you would like to help your sponsored child and family by sending a special gift above the amount of your sponsorship. To do so, please call us at 1.800.777.5777. Your monetary gift will be sent to the World Vision office in the child's country, where our staff will work with the family to determine what they need most. The item(s) will be purchased locally and may include things like farm animals, school supplies or a bicycle. To ensure the best stewardship of our field staff's time and resources, such gifts must be $75 or more.

Other gifts
We also encourage you to send personal cards, letters, and items that can fit into a 6-inch by 9-inch envelope to let your child know you are thinking about him or her.

Caution!
World Vision requests that monetary gifts not be sent directly to your sponsored child. There are several reasons for this.

Our field offices are not equipped to handle funds sent to them directly from sponsors, or to issue receipts. In some countries it is even against the law to possess foreign currency.

Also, some postal systems are unreliable and there is no guarantee that the monetary gifts will reach the field offices. And, it is often difficult for other families in the community to understand why a child or the family received money from the sponsor. This can cause jealousy and divisiveness in the community.
