Julian is currently pursuing a degree in nursing, thanks to scholarships made possible by World Vision’s family sponsorship program in Renacer.
It had all begun two years before, when World Vision’s family sponsorship program covered the cost of Julian’s enrollment in a human rights training course. He immediately began practicing what he learned—spreading awareness among community members and parents about the importance of registering newborn children to ensure their legal rights.
Soon after, he pioneered a youth organization with the goal of attaining scholarships and job training for its members.
Recognizing his faith and his commitment to young people, World Vision invited Julian to the World Congress. Among those attending on November 21, 2005, were government officials, representatives of nongovernmental relief and development organizations, and more than 600 other children and young people.
At the event, youth were asked to draft guidelines for improving human rights—namely a child’s right to citizenship.
“World Vision opened these doors for me,” says a grateful Julian. “This is a dream come true. It has changed my life!”
Julian’s family—sponsored through World Vision’s Renacer project—has been greatly encouraged by his accomplishments.
“We live in a poor area and have eleven children,” says Julian’s mother, Maria. “I never thought Julian would travel to another country! I thank God and World Vision for what they have done for my son.”
Julian’s father, Luis, is the picture of a proud parent. “I see a calling in Julian,” he says. “His trip to Peru was a success and I believe he can continue in his accomplishments. I am a day laborer and have always dreamed of my boy as someone who can surpass me. I am so happy for him.”
