VIDEO: Goats become an answer to prayer

What would it feel like to be disowned by your family because of a condition beyond your control? That’s what happened to Joyce when she found out she was HIV-positive. But the gift of goats through the Gift Catalog have, in her words, changed her life.

The True Spirit of Christmas Team met Joyce this month when they visited her as part of a two-week trip to Sri Lanka and Zambia, where they met families whose lives have been changed by gifts donated through World Vision’s Gift Catalog.

Joyce, who is HIV-positive, discovered God’s answer to her prayers through the gift of goats, which have helped her care for her children and herself. Watch the video to learn more about how these animals have changed her situation from one of desperation to joy.

The simple gift of a goat can change the lives of families in need, like Joyce and her children. Goats can provide milk, cheese, and yogurt, as well as income from extra dairy products and offspring that can be sold at the market. Plus, their manure can be used as valuable fertilizer for crops.

A healthy dairy goat can provide up to 16 cups of milk per day. It’s easier to digest than cow’s milk but still provides an excellent source of protein, calcium, and other key nutrients that growing children need.
