The Move to Area Development Projects

In 1984, the world was shocked by BBC video footage of drought and famine in Ethiopia. This event heightened global awareness of poverty and created a surge in philanthropic giving among Americans.
"Mission and spirituality are cohesive and inseparable, as soul and body are cohesive and inseparable."

Segundo Galilea
The Beatitudes

By the end of 1989, World Vision had grown to 55 offices around the world including the United States, ministry through 5,509 projects funded by numerous World Vision offices, and 833,583 children sponsored by worldwide donors. As the world’s needs grew and became more apparent in this decade, the scope of World Vision’s work expanded, and the responsibilities of its staff multiplied. Although this growth benefited a great number of children, it brought, once again, new understanding about how to effectively administer sponsorship.
