Vietnam endured devastating natural disasters, food insecurity, and economic hardships in 2023. Many vulnerable children experienced difficult challenges to their emotional and physical wellbeing. Throughout the year, over 1,100 natural disasters hit Viet Nam. The damages from these storms, heat waves, heavy rains, and landslides are estimated to be over $338 million. Poverty gaps between the rich and the poor, especially those in rural areas, prevent many ethnic minorities from experiencing the benefits of the country's economic growth. Vulnerable children in many of these remote regions also face significant health challenges: 1 in 5 children are malnourished. Clean water access also presents difficulties as only 1 in 3 people in rural areas have access to clean water. In response, World Vision has been strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders to impact over 200,000 vulnerable children with essential programs and projects. We're channeling our efforts to reduce malnutrition and improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene for communities in need. Over 34,000 children are involved in children's clubs, where we promote their participation in decision-making as part of our commitment to protecting children from violence and abuse.
