Why World Vision is in Philippines

In the past year, the Philippines endured natural disasters, a spike of COVID-19 cases, educational challenges, and an extreme economic crisis.

As thousands of families recovered from Typhoon Rai, volcanic activity in the area and Typhoon Noru’s landfall in September only increased the damage to agriculture and infrastructure. Many families live below the poverty line and lack access to essential resources. Beyond basic necessities like food, water, and healthcare, this affects children’s abilities to return to school. The country also continues to fight against rampant child exploitation taking place online and child labor.

But thanks in large part to donors, partners, and sponsors, 3 million children were reached with emergency response provisions and local advocacy efforts. Our teams are also providing trainings and working directly with the government to set up policies and laws protecting children against exploitation. To provide relief after natural disasters, World Vision has implemented long-term livelihood trainings to help families recover with sustainable sources of income. Children and families are being empowered with educational support, access to nutrition and healthcare, increased livelihood opportunities, spiritual nurture, and more.

We never give up on people

World Vision child sponsorship looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with that community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. For sponsors, it’s a personal way to show God’s love to a child in need in a life-changing way.
