VIDEO: Sowing the seeds of a brighter future

This Sri Lankan father was once forced to leave home for days at a time to seek sources of income, while his wife and children would stay behind and worry about him. But the gift of plants and seeds through World Vision has helped him support his family without ever leaving home.

Living in rural Sri Lanka, this family depended on farming to meet their needs. But it was never enough. The father would have to leave home and find other jobs. With undeveloped roads and the threat of wild animals, it was a risky enterprise.

But a World Vision agricultural program in their community gave this family access to plants and seeds, which they used to grow a healthy garden. Now, they no longer need to worry about how they’ll support themselves, or how the children will be able to stay in school.

Honor Dad this Father’s Day, June 17, with a gift that can help another dad in need. Give the gifts of seeds for a family. Your gift will help deliver seeds for crops like maize, rice, cassava, carrots, cabbage, green beans, peas, potatoes, and onions, which can feed a family’s hungry children, while providing extra income for basics like education and medical care.

Also, consider sponsoring a child in Sri Lanka. Your love and support for a boy or girl in need will help deliver essentials like nutritious food and clean water, as well as other interventions that fight poverty and form the basis for a healthy, productive future.
