When Jill and Alex Hass were at their lowest point—unemployed, with their dream home in foreclosure and no money to pay for electricity or buy groceries for their children—they decided to raise money to help people who might be in more need than them. They organized a backyard potluck, invited a few bands, called the event “Livestock” and raised money to donate to World Vision’s Gift Catalog, providing animals to families in need around the world. In five years, Livestock has grown to one of the biggest events in their town of 11,000 in Minnesota, this year raising more than $30,000 for the Gift Catalog.
